How can online assessment be used to enhance student learning? How you design online assessment activities play an important role in achieving this. This one-hour webinar, presented by Anneri Meintjes from the University of the Free State will focus on practical strategies for designing online assessment activities that enhance student learning by considering challenges that many higher education institutions in developing countries face, such as limited internet connectivity of our students, limited access to devices, and lack of digital skills. The session will be useful for lecturers and academic developers.
Session outcomes:
- Address online assessment challenges through design;
- Design online assessment activities that enhance student learning;
- Develop multiple choice questions that test higher-order learning
This webinar is presented based on a selection of the online assessment resources developed by the UFS as part of a national research project funded by the Carnegie Foundation of New York. These resources, available as an OER, provide guidance on the entire online assessment cycle.
Resources:
Anneri Meintjes is a researcher in the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of the Free State (UFS). Her main responsibilities include promoting the effective use of online assessment through evidence-based best practice; monitoring student and staff engagement with the institutional learning management system (Blackboard), as well as their digital identities; and investigating the optimisation of blended learning UFS. She has worked in the field of assessment, and particularly online assessment, since 2014.
