saidI became interested in online research when I realized that a) I wanted to interview people across the world for my dissertation research, and b) I did not have money to fly around the world. Since 2005 when I started interviewing participants online, I have been exploring the creative and diverse ways qualitative researchers can use technology. I am excited about developing and promoting ways people who lack funds and research infrastructure can conduct meaningful inquiries that can contribute new knowledge and illuminate new perspectives.
Additionally, I have over 16 years of experience as an online faculty member and dissertation supervisor. I am currently changing jobs, and am starting in the College of Education PhD program at Walden University in the summer term. In these roles I have an opportunity to see the challenges and successes of online researchers in action.
I live and work at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, Colorado.

saidHi Janet and other forum members. I am currently employed at UCT and work in the ICTS department. Last year I was fortunate enough to complete the PG Dip in Educational Technology at UCT and I hope to be continuing my studies in this field this year. Prior to this I spent 11 years teaching in both a primary and high school. I then spent the next 10 years utilising my teaching experience to pursue a career in e-learning, digital educational resource creation and curriculum development with focus on online e-learning portals, curriculum delivery and assessment systems. Whilst I am a novice in the area of research, I am very interested in how technology facilitates and opens up different avenues for connecting, communicating, learning and teaching. Although I have been working and developing resources in this field for more than 15 years, I am now looking at formalising my practical experiences in this area, hence being a novice in the field of research. I look forward to the webinar this afternoon and meeting others in this discussion forum. đŸ™‚
