saidDear delegates,
Please introduce yourself and tell our presenter and fellow delegates a bit about yourself and your interest in this topic
Michael
saidI am pursuing a PhD in Educational Technology at the University of Cape Town. At the same time, I am project team member on Distance Education Leapfrogging Project (DELP) at Makerere University in Uganda. This project aims at transformation of Educational technologies used in distance learning from the 1st generation to the current 5th generation technologies through research and professional development approaches. With this project the distance education learning environment is being redesigned to cater for use of emerging technologies in instruction. I am reporting the experiences we are encountering in this journey that makes it a process of reflection and empowerment for those pursuing the same strategy.

saidHi Michael, Jakob and other delegates. I am currently employed at UCT and work at ICTS. I am also currently completing the PG Dip in Educational Technology at UCT this year and hope to be continuing my studies in this field next year. Prior to this I spent 11 years teaching in both a primary and high school. I then spent the next 10 years utilising my teaching experience to pursue a career in e-learning, digital educational resource creation and curriculum development with focus on online e-learning portals, curriculum delivery and assessment systems. My interests include continuously researching available technologies and seeing how these can be utilised and adapted in the pursuit of providing relevant, engaging, comprehensive content packaged into contextually appropriate, user-friendly, intuitive delivery systems in the interest of enhancing the teaching and learning process.
