said1. Power problems in most African countries – the course should be designed in a format that is accessible on mobile phones/ allow options for texts in the form of PDFs
2.Bad network connections- mobile phones can be used as an alternative in cases where the course is accessible on mobile phones
3. Having the wrong audience for the course- the audience must be specified (introduce a selection criteria)
4. Giving unclear instructions- instructions should be clear and tested before they are made available to learners
5. Poor graphics or putting none at all- make use of captivating visuals
6. Poor sound or none at all- make use of sounds and make sure they are clear
7. Too many or too few instructions- instructions should be concise
8. Time allocation- the right time should be allocated so that learners may be able to complete the course
9.Premature release- make sure that the course is intact and has been tested on neutral learners before making it available to the public
10. Reluctantly not implementing Follow Ups since it is an online course- follow ups should be made so as to find out whether or not the learners have gained from the courseNompilo
saidEach of the points you mention above are critical elements that affect particularly off campus learners. As you go through your learning design, please keep these “how to ruin a course” points at the back of your mind. Are you considering incorporating activities and resources that are easily accessible on mobile devices?
