Setting up eLearning Programmes at Higher Educational Institutions

Starting Wednesday 3 June and ending Friday 5 June Dr. Ebenezer Malcalm from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Ghana (UPSA) will lead this three day mini seminar on the challenges of setting up an eLearning Programme for professional studies in higher educational institutions.
It is recognized that ICT, can help address a number of challenges present in the Higher Educational sector such as the provision of appropriate ICT facilities (infrastructure, skilled human resources, content etc.) and can significantly address issues related to quality, access and management
The Ghana Education Reforms launched in June 2007 call for the introduction of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) at both Senior High Schools at Higher Educational Institutions. Many Higher Educational institutions have introduced Distance Learning Programmes. One of such Institutions is University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
UPSA is in process of introducing blended learning. Developing online learning materials is a daunting task. The webinar and the concurrent forum discussions will take participants through how to put in place a formidable system to develop online course materials for the learners and how to set up an online learning system.

Dr. Ebenezer Malcalm is a Senior Lecturer, Instructional Designer and Technologist and the founder of Rescue Mission Ghana. He is also the iEARN Ghana Contact Person and the Project Manager of Global Teenager Project Ghana. He obtained a BA degree in Publishing Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Kumasi, Ghana and a Masters in Population Studies,from University of Ghana. He also graduated and obtained Masters degree in International Affairs with a major in Communication and Development at Ohio University. He earned his Ph.D in Instructional Technology at Ohio University, USA.
Dr. Malcalm’s research interests are in ICT use in education, ICT in education policy issues, distance education, collaborative learning and the use of learning platforms in higher education.
